Mission
The B99Voters Project is a non-partisan 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization established to address the urgent economic challenges facing ordinary Americans residing in the Bottom 99% of U.S. households (B99ers). Over the last 30 years, we B99ers have experienced a steady erosion of our financial security. Federal Reserve data reveals that there has been a large reduction in our share of total wealth from 1990 to today. In Q1 2025, B99er households were $12.8 trillion less wealthy than we would have been if our wealth share was still at Q4 1990 levels. Due to the corresponding increase in their share of national wealth in the same period, the wealth share of the Top 1% of U.S. households increased by $12.8 trillion.
The increase in B99er economic inequality has left millions of ordinary Americans unable to afford the comfortable lifestyle their parents were able to enjoy. Rising housing costs, increased prices for necessities, crushing student debt, and stagnant wages are pushing the dream of middle-class stability further out of reach. If this trend continues, some analysts warn that a comfortable lifestyle for B99ers could vanish entirely in the next decade.
We’ve tried relying on political parties to fix the decline in our financial status. For decades, we’ve alternated our hopes between the red team and the blue team, only to be met with broken promises and worsening economic conditions. It’s now clear: no political party will save us. The solution lies in B99ers uniting across party lines to focus on the one issue that binds us all—getting an economy that works for us ordinary Americans.
With 170+ million registered voters, B99ers have immense potential for collective action. Together, we can create powerful congressional district voting blocs that compel elected officials to prioritize B99er interests on economic issues.
Purpose
The purpose of the B99Voters Project is to unite voters in the bottom 99% of U.S. households in collective advocacy focused solely on getting an economy that works for us. The Project will coordinate and support the creation of nonpartisan congressional district voting blocs. Members of those blocs intend to vote exclusively for candidates committed to prioritizing B99er interests in their decisions on economic issues. Voting blocs harness the collective B99er voting power to reverse decades of B99er financial decline and create a future where ordinary Americans can once again thrive.
Program Description
The B99Voters Project empowers ordinary Americans to take back control of their economic destiny through a focused, unified effort. The organization operates through three primary initiatives:
1. The Congressional District Nonpartisan Voting Bloc Initiative
The core strategy is to create nonpartisan B99er voting blocs in a majority of, possibly all, congressional districts. By joining a bloc, a B99er voter is intending to vote exclusively for House candidates who are committed to prioritizing B99er interests on economic issues while in office. This initiative includes:
- Defined processes for building voting bloc membership. For the 30 states that provide public access to registered voter data, the process will be based on a file of registered voters in a district. Depending on the contact information in each voter record, an invitation to join the bloc will be delivered by email or text message, a phone call or mail. A facility will be provided that enables B99ers who are not yet registered to provide the data required to join their district’s bloc. That same facility can be used as the primary method of joining a bloc in districts for which no registered voter file is available.
- Candidate Pledge Agreement and Accountability. Candidates seeking to be qualified to get district bloc votes must sign a pledge committing to prioritize B99er interests on economic issues, maintain an ongoing dialogue with voting bloc representatives, and agree to have their performance against their pledge monitored and evaluated. Representatives failing to perform adequately will be ineligible to get bloc votes in future elections.
2. Accountability and Advocacy
The plan is to have an advocacy group in each district to manage the voting bloc and ensure local engagement with each incumbent and candidates. These district teams:
- Facilitate regular communication between the district's voting bloc and the incumbent as well as candidates.
- Hold candidates and officeholders accountable to their pledges.
- Mobilize voting bloc members for outreach and issue-based advocacy.
3. Organizational Infrastructure Development
Emulating proven organizational models used by several grassroots political organizations, the B99Voters Project will establish a robust organizational framework including:
- 501(c)(4) Nonprofit Structure: A central management team will oversee operations, coordinate advocacy, and provide technical support for congressional district operations.
- Legislative Advocacy: In coordination with district blocs, champion specific legislative actions to reduce wealth inequality, such as breaking up monopolies, combating price gouging, and implementing fair taxation policies.
Why This Is Urgent
The economic future of ordinary Americans is at stake. Legislative decisions, such as tax cuts benefiting only the wealthiest at our expense, continue to erode our financial security. If we B99ers unite and use our collective voting power to address the shared issue of our economic decline, we can prevent further harm and compel policymakers and our representatives to work on getting an economy that works for us.
Together, we can stop the decline and rebuild economic stability for ordinary Americans. This is our moment to take action and compel real change. As individual voters, we're powerless. Divided into parties, we're not strong enough. United, we'll be invincible!
